Siblings Alfred and Frank Chester were sons of Albert and Maria Starkey. Albert senior was born in Loughborough in 1835, was the son of William, a cordwainer, and Elizabeth and was brought up in John Street, Loughborough.
After his marriage, in 1859, Albert senior, a carpenter and joiner, and his wife, initially lived in Holland Road, Loughborough before moving to No. 30, Moira Street. Where they lived for more than twenty years and where Alfred, junior and Frank were brought up. Prior to 1901, they finally moved to No. 28, George Street, close to the firm’s factory at the end of Cumberland Road. However, there is no evidence that Alfred senior worked for the firm. He is variously described as carpenter, house carpenter, carpenter and joiner and finally, in 1911, a retired joiner.
Albert Chester, senior died in 1914, aged 79 and Maria Chester, two years earlier in 1912, aged 78. Their daughter Elizabeth (1868-1955) continued living at No. 28, probably up to her death in 1955, when aged 86.
