The “Ideal” Domestic Boilers

During the 1920s and 1930s the firm sold the National Radiator Co. Ltd.’s range “Ideal” domestic boilers. The free standing boilers were designed to provide hot water only and came in three designs and seven models: Nos 1 and 2, which had an open fire; Nos 4D, 5D and 6D, which were mid-range closed boilers; Nos 14D and 15D, which were closed boilers with a larger capacity.

They came in two finishes either with a polished top or with a rustless firepot (Bower-barff [1] process), with the options of a baseplate and nickel plated top; both at additional cost.

Reference:

  1. A certain process for producing upon articles of iron or steel an adherent coating of the magnetic oxide of iron (which is not liable to corrosion by air, moisture, or ordinary acids). This is accomplished by producing, by oxidation at about 1,600°F. in a closed space, a coating containing more or less of the ferric oxide (Fe2O3) and the subsequent change of this in a reduced atmosphere to the magnetic oxide (Fe2O4).
